Our Vision:
The ethos at Haddenham Community Junior School has values at its core. We are committed to enabling all children to thrive emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually. Our four core values: respect, resilience, empathy and reflection are the foundation stones to achieve this.
The Pupil Premium was introduced by the government in April 2011 to provide schools with additional financial support for looked after children and those from low income families. The extra funding is to help narrow the attainment gap that exists between pupils from disadvantaged and more affluent backgrounds.This includes a Service premium for those whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces, which is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of such pupils where necessary.
A designated senior leader, working closely with the school finance team, has a clear overview of how funding is allocated and monitors the effectiveness of interventions. This senior leader has a responsibility to ensure the emotional and social well being of our PP children. We use our funding to provide pastoral support programmes such as a nurture group, forest school and breakfast club. We also have a designated Family Links Coordinator, whose role encompasses family support and good communication between home and school. Evidence indicates that high quality teaching is the most powerful way for schools to improve pupil attainment, particularly for socio-economically disadvantaged students. To achieve this outcome, we aim to build teacher knowledge and enrich student learning by investing in high quality CPD, curriculum resources and standardised assessments and diagnostic tools. We also use the Pupil Premium to fund various support and catch up programmes in the core areas of literacy and numeracy ; through which we aim to remove any barriers preventing access to the full curriculum. This includes delivery of an accredited phonics scheme ‘Little Wandle Rapid Catch Up Phonics’ These programmes are delivered via small group or individual tuition by a qualified teacher or a trained teaching Assistant. Through careful planning we ensure that interventions are linked to day to day teaching and do not have a negative impact on learning in other curriculum areas. Achievement data is checked regularly and forms part of the agenda at the pupil progress meetings which are held termly between year group teams and a member of the School Senior leadership team.
Governors have attended training about the Pupil Premium and are therefore able to challenge the school effectively. Feedback is routinely reported to governors at meetings. A named governor is fully involved in monitoring and evaluating the impact of Pupil Premium spending.
