PE & Sports Premium

Our Sports Premium Commitment

At Haddenham Community Junior school, we know that children who are active are not only healthier — they’re also happier, more confident, and ready to learn. That’s why we’re proud to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to give every child the chance to enjoy physical activity, develop new skills, and build healthy habits for life.

 What is the Sports Premium

The Sports Premium is extra funding from the government that helps primary schools improve their PE and sport provision. It’s designed to make lasting improvements that benefit all pupils — now and in the future.

How we use the Sports Premium at HCJS:

We use our Sports Premium to enrich our PE curriculum, offer a wider range of sports, and ensure every child has the opportunity to be active every day. This includes hiring specialist coaches, investing in new equipment, and providing staff training to improve the quality of PE lessons.

Some of the ways we’ve used the funding include:

  • Bringing in qualified sports coaches to work with children and support staff

  • Purchasing new PE and playground equipment

  • Offering exciting activities like handball, swimming and team sports through our Partnership with Insignis and

  • Supporting swimming lessons to help children meet national curriculum targets

  • Improving outdoor spaces to encourage active play every day

Why Physical Activity matters

Physical activity has so many benefits for children — not just for their bodies, but for their minds too. It helps to:

  • Boost self-esteem and emotional wellbeing

  • Reduce anxiety and support mental health

  • Build resilience, teamwork, and trust

  • Improve behaviour and focus in the classroom

  • Enhance academic achievement across all subjects

We believe that every child deserves the chance to move, play, and thrive. The Sports Premium helps us make that happen.

Impact report (HCJS)

For the 2025/26 academic year, schools are required to complete a new digital report for the Department for Education (DfE)  outlining how the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding has been used and its impact on pupil participation and attainment. This year’s reporting places greater emphasis on accountability and continuing professional development (CPD) to promote the long-term, sustainable improvement of PE and sport provision.
